Group Development leadership

Based on the Stages of Group Development outlined in the text and discussed in class, analyze how your group developed throughout the semester. Include relevant details about the makeup of the group, describing significant background factors, the types of communication style used, and leadership and follower-ship styles observed, the other topics discussed, etc. and how these factors influenced the development or lack of development of your group in reaching the working stage of group development. This is the semester indepth overview of your group and is your analysis and reflection about the total group experience. Take an “umbrella” approach – objectively look down at the process of how your group developed this semester. (10)

2. Review the Keys to Success powerpoints. What commonalities are evident from the powerpoints posted by the other groups? From which powerpoint (name the group) did you learn the most and what did you learn? What would be YOUR 5 top Keys to Success and why? (4)

3. Assume that you are the leader of a virtual group in your current/future workplace (concentration area). Reviewing the information from this semester (text, discussion board questions, etc), discuss the issues you would most want to be aware of as you moved that team toward becoming a working group (think about communication processes, background factors, structure, decision making processes, conflict management, personality variables, cultural differences, etc. – all those topics discussed this semester applied to you as a leader with a virtual group). (10) (Also — think of this as preparation for your comprehensive exam).

4. Under “moving beyond technology”, how would you rate yourself on the traditional leadership skills of providing feedback, giving verbal recognition, fostering development, and managing performance vs business objectives? What could YOU have done differently in YOUR group this semester to utilize those leadership skills? (2)

5. Reflect on the three psychological needs of individuals regardless of culture (competence, relatedness, autonomy). How do you think each of these contributed (or didn’t contribute) to your group’s development this semester? How did these contribute (or not contribute) to the development of group cohesion and individual commitment? What could YOU have done differently (or what did YOU do) to contribute to the development of group cohesion and individual commitment? (2)

6. The last paragraph in the article under “about AchieveGlobal” states that people with these skills (think, learn, solve problems, listen, motivate, explain) have a bright future in the 21st century. What do you think about this statement and how do you rate yourself on this aspects of leadership and why? (2)
