HERITAGE LANGUAGE MAINTENANCE AND LEARNING

the goal of the oral presentation is to share your research with the class in an interesting way. You will have 10 minutes for your presentation. You will present for at least 10 minutes. The remaining time will be for questions and discussion of your research.

Prepare a handout (6 copies) to make the presentation visually engaging and to structure the presentation. The handout should be an outline of your presentation (major points); it might also include important quotes from the articles you read. Make sure that the handout pertains clearly to your presentation. Refer to the handout when making the presentation so that the class can understand its relationship to your topic and findings.

Here are the steps to follow when presenting. I will evaluate your presentation based on how well you follow these guidelines. If you choose to present additional visual and/or audio materials, they should be integrated into these steps:

1. Define the topic, including why you chose it, how it relates to you personally and/or professionally, and how you narrowed it as you carried out the research. Be sure to state your topic as a question.

2. Discuss why you chose the particular articles you did, including any theoretical or methodological similarities and differences among them.

3. Discuss what you learned and how you learned it through the readings you chose to include in your research paper. Focus on the most interesting, surprising, or important findings of your research. Be sure to explore the relationship between the findings and your research question.

3. Discuss any remaining issues or questions, ones that you would like to continue studying.
