Explanatory Writing: concept that you are interested in and write an essay that explains one narrowly focused aspect of that concept

Find a concept that you are interested in and write an essay that explains one narrowly focused aspect of that concept. (Ex: Concept=love, one aspect of love=body chemistry of love.) For this paper you are the teacher of the concept, but you will use sources to support your ideas with the help of the experts you are quoting. You will need to incorporate quotations from two (different) book chapters and one journal article. Keep your sources current by finding sources that are not more than ten years old whenever possible. NO INTERNET SOURCES WILL BE ACCEPTED. You may not use more than three sources for this assignment. The best essays will incorporate the quotations from all three sources in a way that flows with the body of the paper. These sources should help you to define and shape the concept for your readers. You must include examples of the writing strategies from Chapter 4: comparison/contrast, definitions, etc, along with the other writing strategies you have been working on in previous chapters, including, but not limited to: details, naming, sensory descriptions, etc. The best papers will have a clear thesis statement and will be well organized around this thesis statement. Your forecast sentence should include your primary points in the order in which you will develop them. Your paper should reflect your understanding of the concept and your ability to explain it to your readers in an engaging, interesting, and detailed way. Your paper should also demonstrate your understanding of the research/source material through your ability to thoroughly explain it and through your use of appropriate quotes, summary/paraphrase. Be sure to quote and cite your sources appropriately to avoid any plagiarism issues. If you are unsure about how you are using sources, please don’t hesitate to ask questions. If you choose to include visuals you must attach them after the text, rather than within. They are not counted in the page requirement. You must also include a Works Cited page in MLA format. With the final draft you will also include copies of the first page of each of your sources. You must also submit your essay through Turnitin. Failure to do so will result in a significant grade deduction.
