NIKE Process Management

16. How processes were analyzed and modified (what did they do to improve) [Anthony]
17. New data is presented to demonstrate how process improvements were effective. [Anthony]
18. Process focused not profit focused (again the MBNQA says profits should be considered). [Anthony]
19. Discuss how Nike is mainly profit oriented. [Anthony]

This is the directions from the Professor.
For the team paper:

Each team will choose one company and provide a detailed QM analysis report concerning all quality aspects of that company. This is a

research paper and data collection and data resources used must be cited in the paper. The MBNQA, ISO:9001:2000, Six-Sigma, or even

Deming’s 14 points are all nice outlines to start with or consider when creating your paper. These describe top-level issues a company

must address in their QM plan. I also suggest some additional issues to cover such as a Mission Statement and Quality Policy that could

help you learn more about the company and what their QM plan comprises of.

In general you are to dissect a company’s Quality Management operations in terms of how it affects each business operation (inputs,

process, outputs, suppliers, customers, workers). If possible you should compare them to their competitor’s operations (sounds like

benchmarking!) and should make any recommendations for improvements.

There is no set length for the paper, the grading will be based on data collected, knowledge about the company and their competitors, data

analysis, and recommendations. In general Quantitative measurements (actual data, graphs) of defects before and after or efficiency

improvements will result in a higher grade. Opinions do not mean much.

Also this should not be a financial paper. Making large profits does not necessarily demonstrate high quality standards (although the

MBNQA would disagree on this point). A strong paper identifies baseline metrics (how they are performing today), how processes were

analyzed and modified (what did they do to improve), and new data is presented to demonstrate process improvements were effective.
