Run through scientific method firstly showing the youtube clip ‘the scientific method made easy’
Explain the scientific method reminding them of science in school and going through the steps:
Area of study
Identify problem
Hypothesis
Procedure to test hypothesis
Data collection
Data analysis
Derive conclusion
NB: You can never prove a hypothesis, you can only support it
There is no point in doing a study if you don’t write it up and fit it into the existing knowledge and research in the area, like adding a piece to a jigsaw puzzle. Hence it is written up as a Scientific Report which has a strict format. The sections of the scientific report are:
Title
Abstract
Introduction (which includes aim and hypothesis)
Method
Results
Discussion (which is what you are going to prepare and write on the back page of the assessment)
References (which must be peer reviewed and are mostly peer reviewed journal articles plus a textbook or two)
Appendix
This is what you need to prepare ie what you are writing on the back page of the assessment:
Define the concepts – extraversion and need for achievement
Give our findings and explain what they mean
Find at least three pieces of research from the library journal database. These should be other studies about the relationship between extraversion and need for achievement . You then briefly outline each of the studies and what was found. When referring to these references, you use in text citation ie (authors names, date of publication). There is no need to write the whole reference on your assessment as you are bringing the references in on a separate piece of paper.
