For this all-important assignment, you will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the various processes involved in the construction of a successful argument by completing an eight-page persuasive essay that builds upon the knowledge you have obtained over the course of this semester. The process for completing this essay will consist of narrowing a broad topic to a specific issue and deciding which side of the issue you wish to argue from. This will be a persuasive essay, so standing on the fence of an issue and writing from an informative perspective will not be permissible. You must choose a side of the issue and attempt to convince your audience members to accept your stance themselves. Upon deciding your stance and establishing a claim (your thesis), you will work to support your argument through the use of outside evidence that is presented through a variety of appeals. This will be accomplished by way of including a sufficient number of counterarguments and outside sources. No fewer than seven sources total must be utilized as support for your claim, each cited using MLA guidelines. One of your seven sources must be a field interview conducted with an expert on the topic. The following requirements must be met by each and every student, and failure to meet any ONE of these requirements will result in automatic failure of the assignment:
• The essay must be a minimum of six pages in length and must not exceed eight pages total. The Works Cited page does NOT qualify as one of the required pages, nor does the title page. The six to eight pages must consist of actual content.
• A total of seven outside sources must be utilized to support your claim. One of the seven sources must be a field interview conducted with a designated expert
• A copy of the first page of each source must be attached to the essay (scanned and included).
• A Works Cited page must be included, with in-text citations provided for each source listed.
