This assignment if for Mater degree of TESOL, the course name is ‘ Global Issues in Second Language Acquisition’.
This assignment is a open topic essay. Here is the initial idea of mine:
(I am always interested with Language and culture. In week 4 we have lecture about Culture, Language Learning & International Standards, and in week 6 we have lecture about deculturalisation of English, this topic really refresh my view toward language and culture. I found most EIL researchers believes native speakers culture should not be the dominant culture of English, culture in EIL should be neutral for all users, thus English should be ‘deculturalised’.
I wonder dose this theory adaptable for all ESL classrooms? After last week’s tutorial, I realised deculturalisation is not always suitable for ESL class, for example, the Immigrant department has English class for refugees who are trying to adapt into local life and society. Students in these classes need culture content when they learn English.
