For students who have not fulfilled the research requirement by completing one hour of research studies throughout the term, the option to fulfill the requirement by writing a Research Report is available in order to access the final exam. How to complete the Research Report Requirement To fulfill the Research Report Requirement, students should read an empirical scientific article selected from the list of journals indicated below and write a brief report (1000 words) of the article. Reports need to be submitted on Moodle for approval and must include the full reference to the journal article being reviewed. The deadline for submission is December 22, 6pm. In order to be deemed satisfactory, the research report must 1) Be written in the student’s own words (i.e., go beyond the article abstract). This aspect will be enforced by checking the submissions for plagiarism. 2) Address each of the following points by adopting this report structure: A. What the researcher expected to find. B. The study procedure and important concepts. C. The major result or findings of the study. D. The main conclusion(s) of the article. E. What you liked and disliked about the article. The instructor will verify that the report meets these criteria. In case the instructor deems the report unsatisfactory, either because it merely reports excerpts from the article text, or because it fails to address some of the points outlined in the aforementioned report structure, the student may be asked to revise it and resubmit it. Students will be able to choose from the following list of suitable, refereed journals. These journals contain articles that have been carefully reviewed by other academics prior to publication. Because these journals accept only refereed articles, the studies contain research findings that have followed sound and established principles of science.
