The Literacy Narrative TELL A PERSONAL STORY ABOUT: ?1. An experience with the English language that taught you something surprising ?OR ?2. An experience with your native language that taught you something surprising ?OR ?3. How another English class taught you something valuable about your first language. Getting Started ?1. Use our prewriting tools. ?2. A narrative is a story, so say it out loud to someone if that helps you compose the story on paper. ?3. Think about what was said by people IN the story, and how it was said! Sounds and feelings can help you remember the story, and language MUST be a part of this assignment. ?4. This is a personal story, so discuss yourself and in the first person. It might seem strange or hard to compose your own thoughts, but that IS required so if you need help, please ask. Things to Consider ?1. We will have plenty of time to revise your essay during the next few weeks. Don’t worry about composing a perfect essay at the beginning; we’ll work on it together! ?2. There are a lot of places to get help, from tutors to your instructor to the textbook. If something seems hard, don’t wait until it’s too late to get help! ?3. This essay may be shared with the group, so please only include information about yourself that you feel comfortable sharing with others. Requirements ?1. The essay must be 3 FULL pages in length of typed, double-spaced composition in 12pt. Times New Roman font with margins no wider than 1 inch and text aligned to the left. If your first draft has problems with that I will inform you that you MUST revise per my instructions. ?2. This essay must meet all requirements as described in the syllabus and on this assignment sheet. ?3. First drafts must be submitted in the “Dropbox” tab on D2L by 3PM on the due date, and a hard copy brought to class on the due date. Late drafts lose points. First drafts must be at least half of the final length requirement. Final drafts must be submitted in a labeled folder with all comments.
