Trinity

Take Home Exam on the Trinity
Our unit on the Trinity will culminate in an exam that you must complete at home and hand in during class when you return from Easter Break, on Tuesday 22 April 2014. The exam is worth 75 Points.

1. As we discussed in class, although the doctrine of the Trinity is not explicitly stated in the New Testament, much of the foundation for that doctrine is to be found within its pages, beginning with the question: If only God can save us from our sins, then how can Jesus and the New Testament authors make this claim about him? Describe how the words of Jesus and the writings of Paul and John made the case that Jesus was divine and in so doing laid the foundation for the doctrine of the Trinity.
2. Jews and Christians agree that God is Life. What does it meant to assert that God is Life? And how, according to C.S. Lewis (MereChristianity), does Jesus as the Son of God bring humanity to share in this Divine Life?
3. Although Jews, Christians and Muslims all believe in the One True God (the God of Abraham) only Christians believe in the Trinity: that God is comprised of Father, Son and Spirit. Of these three groups, only Christians believe that God is Love in the truest, natural sense. What, according to C.S. Lewis and Robert Wilken, is the connection between the Doctrine of the Trinity and the Christian claim that God is Love?
