Paper #1 Focused Study/Identification Study: Identify a focus of study within the framework of this course. Through broad and deep reading of course materials and outside scholarly peer-reviewed resources, describe and develop a quality issue relevant to the student’s interest in health care. Review key background literature related to the need for work on this quality issue. The review will include discussion of the particular problem, including workplace, local or national statistics as available, particularly focusing on the gap between the current state and the available standard for that particular issue or problem. The problem must of relevance to nursing and/or the healthcare organization and should have measurable outcome criteria. Examples include nursing sensitive indicators as well as performance indicators from CMS, The Joint Commission, CARF, specialty organizations and others.
