1 Assessment name: Report Description: Students will choose a topic in HRM and write a report using the suggested framework: theory, research and practice. You’ll need to select a framework in your topic area, review a range of research articles around that framework and then provide some industry insights into whether the industry practice flows from theory and research. Highlight any innovations. Select a topic in the environment of HRM (e.g. big data, globalisation) or the current issues in HRM (e.g. work-life balance, contingent workforce) that interests you. Consider the factor of access to data/information on that topic from an organisation/industry. Secondary data, available from public sources, are acceptable. Step2: Literature review To fully understand the topic and research findings, read some relevant books and articles from quality journals (e.g. Human Resource Management, Human Resource Management Journal, and International Journal of Human Resource Management) and industry magazines (e.g. HR Monthly from AHRI) on your topic. Refine the topic based on your literature review and select an appropriate framework. Step3: Gain access to an organisation/industry (preferably) or rely on publicly available information Investigate how the organisation/industry addresses the issue under focus. DO NOT record audio or video of managers/staff without prior written permission. If they hesitate to give access/information, assure them that you won’t put the organisation’s name on the report. Step4: Report writing Prepare the report arranging and summarising the information (collected in steps 2 and 3) using the below framework. See the required structure noted below.
