Project Management Formal details Word count: The word count for the report is 3,000 words excluding executive summary and appendices, the word count must be supplied on the front page. Format / due date: The submission should made by 18 March 2016, 9am in softcopy through Turnitin on StudySpace. It should include your personal report and slides. The marks: The assignment is worth 50% of the overall module assessment grade. This is an individual assignment. Objectives The purpose of the project is to practice some of the aspects of project planning and control in the context of uncertainty. The project is to be done individually. To do: 1- Based on the results of previous assignment on this module, your prior work experience or personal preferences pick a subject area for a project (see Appendix 1 for examples). 2- As a representative of an organisation commissioning the above project: a) Define a reasonably achievable scope and deliverables – use your judgement to set the time constraints, assume money is “no object”. b) Construct a Request For Proposal (RFP) that is to be sent out to potential contract bidders. Refer to the lecture slides for the standard/required components of the document. 3- As a contractor who has just won the tender for the above project create a Project Charter to be used by the project team. This should at least include the following elements: – Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) – Estimate of time and resources needed (staff, materials, etc.) – Network / Critical Path analysis and Gantt Diagram – Budget – Quality Assurance plan – Risk Management plan 4- Construct a 5-slide presentation for senior management to demonstrate your vision of how the project is to be delivered. Your submission: Your report should include the following: – RFP – Project Charter – Presentation slides Remarks: – You must provide a general table of contents for the report. – You must “sell” your report – look at it and ask yourself “does it look professional enough? Would I submit this to my boss?”. – Your presentation must include all the essential factual elements, but not be overburdened with excessive detail. Appendix 1 The list of proposed subject areas: – Previous assignment recommended strategic option – Your previous work experience – Your university degree – Your career – Etc.
