The aim of this assessment is to evaluate your ability to integrate the consideration of critical management issues into your own reflective practice. The portfolio will take the form of a reflective log of the evolution of your thinking about critical management studies, following teaching sessions and your individual work on the module. The learning journal should include a critical reflection on theoretical elements of the course (from week 1 to week 6 inclusive), as well as their application to organizational settings. What should you write about? The most important thing is to make time for your writing every week – regularly set aside some time to think, and then write down your thoughts with a view to communicating: • • What you think about the issues raised on the course – you can select and focus on a set of concepts, theories or frameworks that drew your attention • • What you find puzzling and contradictory • • What resources have helped you to understand and/or been interesting to use, making an effort to link theory to real-life business examples? • • How do you feel about the way you have approached the issue/topic so far? Which connections did you make across the different sets of authors and perspectives introduced in the course? • • What new knowledge, skills or understanding have you gained during the process of writing your learning journal? From this regular, preparatory thinking and writing work, you should write up a journal that should include: o a weekly detailed account of your learning process– with a discussion of some of the concepts and/or frameworks covered during lectures and in your reading materials, which you found important, significant or insightful, and perhaps attempts to compare approaches 5 o your engagement with their application to business examples and how they can contribute to illuminate your understanding of contemporary business practice o a final critical and reflexive summary of how your learning on the module can or will affect your current or future managerial practice. You MUST hand in a hard copy to the Student Support Office (post into the black submission boxes outside the office). You MUST also submit an electronic copy via Turnitin, which is a plagiarism and collusion detection system. If you do not submit to Turnitin, your work will not be marked. Failure to submit an identical version via Turnitin compared to your hard copy will attract a penalty of 10 marks. To submit via Turnitin, you go to the assessment area for the module on VITAL and you will find a link for the coursework. Click on View/Complete and then on the “submit” icon for the paper. You are then prompted to submit a title for the paper. Use the “browse” button to locate the file you want to submit, then click “submit”. You will then be asked to confirm that you want to submit by clicking the “Yes, submit” button.
