Reflect on an actual situation in your life where the drama triangle was present. In your reflection paper describe: The role you were playing (Victim, Persecutor, Rescuer). What were you doing that led to you being in this role? Describe who/what were the other two roles, and how they were being played out. What was the outcome of this type of interaction (what was the impact because of being in the drama triangle) Reflect again on that situation, and discuss one of the following: If you were the victim answer: What is the dream/desire denied to you? What did you really want? How might you approach this situation differently next time? Or If you were the persecutor answer: What was your intention? Was it to ‘look good’ or was it honestly a ‘learning’ intention? How could you have acted/spoken in a way that challenged the other to learn and made clear the reason you were challenging them? How might you approach this situation differently next time? Or If you were the rescuer answer: How did you see the others involved –as problems to fix or take care or, or as being resourceful and capable? What questions could you ask that would have helped them clarify their vision/outcome or their current reality or possible next steps? How might you approach this situation differently next time? Bonus question – describe a time that you effectively, in the moment, shifted from the drama triangle to the empowerment dynamic.
