Case Study on Tricksters

Here is the assignment: “Most scholars of folk/fairy tales deploy a case study method, viewing the translation and adaptation of core tales over time and place, which is precisely what you will do in your final project. For your final project, you will select a tale that has proved its durability but shifted over time, analyzing three adaptations of it. You can select your adaptations from literature, film, stage, television, games, or even franchise merchandise or places of entertainment—realms of fairy tale play. For example, you could pursue how the racially charged Brer Rabbit morphed into the often cross-dressing Bugs Bunny to Roger Rabbit, the toon slave.” The theme I had to choose for this paper is tricksters. We have studied Coyote Tales (Native American folk tale), Brer Rabbit, Anansi(including Gaiman’s novel), and Monkey King to name a few but this doesn’t have to be the focus of the paper. Whichever tale the writer chooses to focus on, I would like them to include The Joker/The Riddler from the Batman Universe and/or any famous character(s) from the Marvel Universe (Loki perhaps?) as part of the 3 adaptations- BUT ONLY IF IT MAKES SENSE. Please email/text me with any questions.
