COURTLY LOVE AND CHIVALRY

Times New Roman font 12 double-spaced two to three pages. Due Thursday April 7. Pick a work of art or architecture that reflects the culture of COURTLY LOVE AND CHIVALRY made between 1100 and 1500 A.D. Use class lecture, sources I have uploaded for you, and the text of Tristan and Isolde to identify motifs and themes relevant to the Medieval culture of chivalry. These themes include legendary stories associated with this culture (Chanson de Roland, King Arthur, etc.) Make sure to find a work made within the time period I have set for you. Write at least three pages double-spaced times new roman font 12 on this work. Your paper should break down in this fashion: 1. No more than one paragraph giving the background information necessary to identify the work: name, date, provenance, name of artist/architect if possible, and function (i.e., illuminated manuscript, vase for carrying wine, decorative object, book cover, tapestry, etc.) 2. Larger section describing the work, and how it reflects some of the important characteristics of chivalry and courtly love. 3. Why you chose the work, which aspects and characteristics of the work struck you as interesting and why. 4. Conclusion (i.e. summing up all of the above in a clear and concise manner).
