Lucy is a 50-year-old Caucasian woman. She was married for 12 years (ages 28-40) and has two children, ages 15 and
17. She has a history of depression that has been treated with antidepressants through her primary care provider.
Over the past year, Lucy has been dealing with medical pain, causing her to miss work, where she is a receptionist at
a car dealership. Lucy was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and has lost a considerable amount of weight. She has
come to counseling because of a recent suicide attempt where she took a host of medications. Her children are
emotionally supportive and concerned about their mother. The children are dependent on Lucy for financial support and
sustenance. Lucy also has a sister. There is no long-term history of substance abuse but there is concern she is
developing an addiction to her pain medications. Her hobbies in the past included art and movies, but she has not
been spending much time with these due to her feelings of sadness, grief, and crying.
