Get a plastic trash bag and carry it with you for one entire day (from the time you wake until the time you got to sleep at night). Put EVERYTHING you throw away in the bag during this 24 hour period. At the end of the day, weigh what you have collected in pounds ( you should round up your amount to a whole number in pounds, if needed); multiply this amount by 365 to estimate you yearly “trash factor.” you number should be in pounds. Multiply this amount by 318 million to estimate the annual waste of the entire U.S. population. You are to record: 1) the weight in pounds of the trash you collected in one day; 2) your yearly trash factor (the weight in pounds of trash x 365); and,3) the U.S. yearly trash factor using your trash factor (your trash factor x 318 million). Use commas in your numbers where appropriate and write out the entire number.
