Deliverable 3 asks you to combine the skill sets developed in Deliverables 1 and 2. At this point, you have explored the conventions of writing and research in your academic field and you have located and evaluated 8 to 10 academic sources on your chosen research topic. The Literature Review is an exercise in synthesis. You will be exploring the current “state” of research on your topic, and demonstrating the need for your own research project.
Purpose
To synthesize the research published in your discipline on your selected topic that you located and evaluated in Deliverable 2 and to inform the reader of the current state of the research on that topic.
Audience
Fellow researchers in your field who are familiar with the topic but who would like to learn more about the published research. Because your audience is familiar with the topic, that means you do not need to define terms or include other information that the audience could reasonably be expected to already know.
Learning Objectives:
• Locate and analyze academic research to identify trends and gaps in the literature;
• Synthesize sources to support a thesis; and
• Use appropriate documentation style and formatting.
