Curriculum renewal in mathematics for engineering students: an example of consulting stakeholders in a context constrained by university policies

“When I was selling in bazaars I noticed that people gave me bad looks. I felt inside that people thought that I was selling because I needed money. But after I opened my own shop, things changed for the better” (P 3).
“My married daughter told me one day that her husband’s family asked her: Is your mother working as a seller? It was as if I am doing something to be ashamed of” (P 4).
However, this was not the case with other women entrepreneurs who run a beauty centre or work as designers. “I didn’t face any problems with society’s attitude” (P 6).
Furthermore, gender stereotypes can be seen as challenges that face Saudi women entrepreneurs. Some of the women interviewed have faced difficulties in convincing their families to accept the idea of starting a business. Some women reported that their families did not accept the idea of starting a business and they did not take their work seriously.
