Assignment details: you are to create a media relations packet consisting of a standard press release, short fact sheet, email story pitch and a blog post on one of the topics listed below. This portion of the assignment is worth 75 points.
Doing a lot of research before start, if you need more pages, just send me the link to pay for extra money. Since this is final project, please do you best on this.
Media packet topics:
1. IU Dance Marathon raised a record $3.2 million for charity in November 2014. Your press release should announce the winning total and offer key highlights of the event. The release and all other materials you’ll prepare should include key messages about IUDM, its history and how it benefits the university, IU students and the local community.
2. The ongoing effort at IU to establish a more caring, compassionate and supportive campus culture, through student-led initiatives such as Culture of Care, as well as programs offered by the Division of Student Affairs, Residential Programs and Services (RPS), IU Health Center and other units.
A great deal has been written about the first two topics – much of it to be found on IU’s web sites or in the media – that can be used for the appropriate background.
Packet specifics:
– Press release: 400-500 word general release about one of the above topics geared toward the Bloomington or Indianapolis media audience. Assume nothing of note has been written recently about your topic and this release is designed to share the broad news of the initiative at hand. (25 points)
– Fact sheet: Provide the key facts (W-W-W-W-W-H) about your topic in a format that’s easily digestible for media. Think of these through the eyes of the audience that the media serve may want to know – not necessarily questions an internal audience would ask. (10 points)
– Email story pitch: An email pitch to a reporter/editor whom you think would be interested in your topic enticing them to do a story for his/her media outlet. Include an attention-grabbing subject line and opening. Remember, reporters and editors receive many pitches each day. Make your best, most compelling sales case. (15 points).
– A 400-500 word blog post, with links to appropriate supporting web sites and at least one visual element (photo, logo, graphic) that stresses the importance of the issue/initiative at hand to IU, its students and/or Indiana in a way that personalizes the issue. Consider this a feature story approach to highlighting the issue at hand. (25 points).
