ANIMATED SHAKESPEARE

QUESTION:
WRITE A BRIEF (1000 WORDS) TO THE CREATIVE TEAM (e.g. director, animation designer, scriptwriter) in pre-production for an animated film of a Shakespearean play. (Choose one that has not been used for the Animated Tales, or has not been filmed using the type of animation the new project will use).
THE CRITICAL EXEGESIS (1800 WORDS) will be an essay in which you use ANIMATION THEORY and the concept of CHANGES OF NARRATIVE MODE particularly the relationship of poetic language to dialogue and other MEDIA-SPECIFIC CODES.
YOUR ESSAY SHOULD DISCUSS BOTH THE ANIMATED TALES AND YOUR OWN CREATIVE PIECE.

TASK: THERE ARE 2 PARTS OF THIS ASSIGNMMENT!!!

PART 1 will be A CREATIVE PIECE that consists of an adaptation of a nominated section of one of the set texts, or a print or digital media object that applies critical thinking to an aspect of the key unit theories

LENGTH: 1000 WORDS

MARKING CRITERIA
1. Knowledge of narrative theory, narrative strategies, media specific codes and stylistics, formats, genres and conventions
2. Ability to clearly mobilise concepts and strategies in creative or editorial/curatorial practice
3. Application of key unit theory to real world creative practice
4. Demonstration of ethical issues concerning children and young people
5. Clarity, readability and flow of written expression and/or clarity and intelligibility of other design elements that are incorporated N.B. The creative piece need not be a work of stunning, original ‘genius’, but grammar, syntax, spelling, punctuation, formatting and design elements should be correct and promote easy understanding by a ‘user’, while spoken and written idiom should be appropriate to the context.

PART 2 will be A CRITICAL EXEGESIS THAT analyses the narrative or curatorial/ editorial decisions, narrative strategies, and media specific transcoding employed in the creative project AND the set texts upon which it draws, making reference to “sources provided” and independent research. It is thus both an exegesis and a comparative essay.

LENGTH: 1800 WORDS

REFERENCING STYLE: HARVARD (AT LEAST 6/7 SOURCES)

MARKING CRITERIA
1. Ability to construct an argument rationalizing the creative piece in terms of key unit theory, narrative strategies, media specific codes and genre conventions
2. Ability to Integrate at least 6/7 research sources, at least 2 of which must be sourced from independent research (not FROM SOURCES I PROVIDED)
3. Ability to choose key ideas from sources and use them as jumping-off points for independent analysis and to explain their relevance to your own argument (ie: avoidance of unintegrated, ‘floating’ quotes from sources that have little relevance to your own argument)

NOTES:
1) You should design the creative piece in the light of the concepts you are asked to discuss in the Exegesis/Essay component.
2) You will be assessed on how well the creative piece integrates with the Exegesis/Essay component, and how far they both demonstrate ability to apply key unit concepts to solve new problems and to produce critical and creative discourses.
