Applied Marketing Research

The purpose of this assignment is to provide you experience with designing a research study, and writing a research proposal. It is useful for planning a study (and for getting critical feedback before undertaking the study) and answers the following questions: Why do we need this study? What do we already know about the problem (Literature review, Theoretical background)? What is your research question? What are your hypotheses/propositions? How do you measure your variables? What kind of data do you need to answer the research questions? How will you analyze the data? Conventional Elements of a Research Proposal Problem or objective. Research proposals generally begin with an introductory section that describes the research problem and establishes its significance. For the proposal, you must select a topic related to marketing. Good sources of ideas include lectures, your textbook, problem sets/simulations, and discussions. Other sources of ideas include topics from other marketing classes or marketing magazines and journals. (300 Words) Review of Literature. The research problem or objective needs to be situated within a context of theory in the area(s). The literature review presents a discussion of the most important research and theoretical work relating to the research problem/objective. Please find and summarize (very briefly) 15 scientific articles related to your chosen research problem. (300 Words) Research Question. Your specific research question(s) or hypotheses (minimum 2) should be stated clearly either at the end of the description of the problem/objective or at the end of the review of the literature. Methods Section. This section describes how you will conduct your study. Regardless of the type of research you plan to do, you need to indicate how you will carry out your study so others may judge its viability, its worth, etc. For example, for empirical research, this section includes a description of the subjects (or participants), the measurements, a sample questionnaire, sampling strategy, the data-collection methods, and analysis/analyses. (800 – 1000 Words) Expected Outcomes & Limitations. The last section of a proposal usually describes managerial and academic implications. It ends with a short research outlook and describes potential limitations of the study. (400-500 Words) References.
