Case Study, Ian’s Story

You are required to write a critique of an ethical dilemma based on a particular case The case study must critique the dilemma according to: • the deontological or teleological ethical framework predominantly used in the case • the main primary ethical theory used in the case • either the AASW, APS or PACFA Code of Ethics • whether or not the outcome of the case was ethical Please be sure that you have selected a suitable case study for this assignment and not a report on, or meta-analysis of, an ethical dilemma. The article must focus on an actual case involving an ethical dilemma encountered in a practice situation. For example, the following article taken from Counselling and Values, one of the journals from which you are expected to locate a case study, is not a case: Sperry, L. (2010). Writing about clients: An overview of ethical and professional issues in clinical case reports. Counselling and Values, 54, (2), pp. 83-87. The article does not present a case or dilemma. Structuring the case study Take particular note of how the case in the article you have chosen is set out, and the dilemma is analysed and discussed. This ought to aid your critique. The marking scheme provides the basic structure for the case study. The specific criteria serve as prospective headings, although these need to be tailored to the particular case. However, the case study must be shaped into a coherent narrative, and not simply form a series of unconnected responses to the criteria. There are no examples, since it is your ability to write an original case study not reproduce one, which is being assessed. It is also essential that you account for every word used. You must, therefore, ensure that the 1500 word limit is strictly adhered to. There is no extra 10% word allowance. Text in excess of the word limit will not be read, and hence, marked. Appendices, diagrams, direct quotes, face page, figures, page numbers, reference list, and tables are not included in the word count. Headings and in-text citations are counted.
