Your paper must draw on relevant original writings of Foucault and Foucauldians found in the course outline. It will also be based on two of the sources found in the “additional readings” for each session. For your paper you may use the additional readings from any class session, e.g. you may write on “governmentality” but draw on the additional readings for the classes on “discipline”. You may also select additional readings that are not listed in the course outline, but you must be in touch with me and obtain my approval before using the readings.
You should refer to the following as a guide to structuring your paper:
➢ Number the pages of your essay
➢ Include a title page with your name, student number and the title of the paper, which
should be interesting and informative
➢ Use clear, structured sentences and paragraphs throughout
➢ Use quotations effectively but sparingly
➢ Use in-text citations as in the following examples: (Oksala, 45), (Foucault in Rabinow, 198), (Dean, in course kit, 118)
➢ Include sub-headings within the paper where appropriate
➢ Use transition sentences between paragraphs and sections
➢ Maintain focus on the main point of the essay throughout

kit in APA or other generally recognized format.

3 Components of Discipline:
a) Hierarchal observation
Each body placed under observation.This renders the individual visible and observable

Discipline operates through surveillance.The surveilled and the surveilled are in a hierarchical relation.
b)normalizing judgment
Discipline is normalizing (pervasive- society monitored by standardization)- unlike earlier form of criminal law which was all about punishment
How to normalize(think normal distribution):
-Take a category to be measured
-Determine the station and temporal field in which members of the category might be found
-Define the abnormal to the characteristics of the field
-Establish the range and distributions of the field
-Establishes immanent principles of comparison
-Locate individual performance in field
-Normalization blends the is and ought:individualize and differentiate and compare and optimize and include and exclude.

Next, you will discuss how to combat Islamophobia in the context of the urgent call for tolerance. This call is usefully delineated in Brown’s book “A new Introduction to Islam”, chapter 17: “Islam in the Twenty-First Century”, and Kalin’s, “Islamophobia and the Limits of Multiculturalism”. Argue for a strategy in the light of their views to overcome Muslim difficulties in the West and to bring about what Idilby calls “American (or Western rather) Islam.”
In this endeavor, you need to address the following questions:
1) What traditions in historical Islam suggest that it is a religion capable of handling diversity?
2) Do Islamic liberalism and Islamic feminism hold any promise of fostering this American Islam (Islam in the West)? You will want to support your answer with insights gained from Brown and Idilby. In Chapter 17, Browns reviews seminal books within these two scholarly pursuit as represented by the following scholars and their works: Fatima Mernissi, The Veil and the Male Elite; Amina Wadud, Quran and Women; Fazul al-Rahman, Islam and Modernity: Transformation of an Intellectual Tradition; and Khalid Abu al-Fadl, Speaking in God’s Name. Idilby finds the work of Abdolkarim Soroush relevant to indigenizing Islam in the West.
3) Most importantly: Is the West prepared to engage multiculturalism and pluralism in good faith? Is the concept of the “clash of civilizations,” popularized by Samuel Huntington, conducive to plurality (Idilby begins her discussion of this on page 196). If not, why?

Nurse B advised Nurse A that she should not be concerned about this incident because the responsibility of creating the drug chart lays with doctor and nurses are only suppose to follow the drug chart. As a result of this the condition of the patient X deteriorated and patient X was transferred to Cardio Thoracic ward.
(The nurse B should have advised the Nurse A that she should have consulted with the doctor about her medications not charted. Nurse should be responsible and accountable for all the care she is providing to the patient.)

Your assignment for this week is to (1) identify at least two frameworks through which the documentary filtered its materials, objectively laying out how the documentary’s message was crafted into a cohesive and unitary whole. Please do not editorialize or make evaluative statements. I simply want you to identify what the frameworks are. Then, once you have objectively described two frameworks, I want you to (2) utilize “radical doubt,” which means you do not accept what is communicated at face value, that you assume the documentarian and the interviewees in the documentary have concealed information or they are providing a faulty representation of social reality.
