Case Study for assessment Formulating the problem and Planning Intervention

o Assessment Standards
The following five (5) standards apply to all assessments in this subject with students who achieve all the following criteria being considered to be performing at an ‘A’ grade.
Verbal and written communication demonstrates a high level of literacy, with sentence construction providing clear meaning and logical argument. Students demonstrate their capacity to use language conventions, including those of Social Work and provide consistent APA referencing in all written work. All communication is constructed in a respectful and context sensitive manner.
All assessment tasks demonstrate attention to investigation and research of theory, applications of theory and critical reflection.
The development of case assessment and intervention processes demonstrates critical thinking skills, analysis and creativity, and integrates theoretical knowledge.
Participation in seminars reflects the student’s attention to respectful, ethical relationships, sensitivity to diversity and self-reflection.

Students will:
1. Use the case scenario provided for analysis;
2. Provide a case summary and problem formulation;
3. Develop a intervention plan using a nominated theory of intervention, and
4. Provide a critically reflective commentary/review of responses to engaging in this intervention
5.
o You will need to:
6- Give a succinct case summary of the client’s situation
7 -Identify the client(s) with whom you are planning to work and provide specific client details that need to be taken into account for advanced casework intervention.
8-Identify and briefly describe the presenting problem together with a case formulation based on a nominated theory of intervention. It is the case formulation and choice of intervention that is the essential component here.
9-Describe the process of intervention to be undertaken with the client, together with your rationale for using the nominated theory of intervention and techniques. And Why you selected this theory of intervention?
10-Briefly discuss an alternative approach to intervention in this scenario
11- Provide a critically reflective commentary on your responses to this scenario
12- Use reference to key publications in your discussion to support your arguments/choices for problem formulation and intervention choices.
13- APA references styles all the times
14- Prepare 2000 words an essay including a critical reflection
Thinking about intervention approaches and (2) applying these to either a stage of human development or to a situation that is likely to confront social workers in the practice context – for instance needing to work with a couple or in a crisis. This helps us to think about the nature of clients and their issues, and the theories and interventions that might be applied. For example, intervention with a child who has been abused who is accompanied by a parent, an adolescent who has been breaking the law and whose family has excluded him from home, or a couple with relationship difficulties who live with in-laws.

Access to Medicines: The Ethics of Prescription Drug Benefit Coverage

Description: Prescription drugs represent a small component of National Health Expenditures; however, they are a common source of recurring high out-of-pocket payments by individuals. Health insurance and coverage for prescription medicines offers one of the most effective ways to support filling and continued use of medicines for prevention, condition management, treatment and cure where possible. The lack of insurance is a well-documented cause of failure to fill prescriptions, refill them and/or take less than the prescribed amount. Now, having insurance may not be a buffer to high out-of-pocket payments, placing medicine beyond the reach of those who may need it the most. This presentation and discussion will examine principles for ethical design of benefits and how current practices do or do not reflect those principles.

Write a reflection paper on the standards of professional dietetics practice and the practice guidelines.

Tips on Writing a Reflection paper (from my instructor)
1. A reflection paper is not simply a summary of the assigned readings or a stream of conscious mind dump.
2. A reflection paper is your identification of the main themes of the readings integrated with your class room or work experience and how both affect your thinking and practice.
3. A reflection paper is your chance to add your thoughts and analysis to what you have read and experienced.
4. A reflection paper is meant to illustrate your understanding of the material and how it affects your ideas and possible practice in future.
5. Begin by jotting down some of the main themes of the readings and points that stand out in your mind. Decide why they stand out to you.
6. Using the first person singular (“I”), relate the readings to your previous knowledge and experience.
7. Consider if and how what you have read and learned changes your thinking and might affect your practice in both personal and professional situations.
8. Review the readings to be sure you’ve included all the relevant information you can and made all the connections you can.
9. Give your reflection paper structure with an opening paragraph, main body, and conclusion.
10. Write the body of the paper first by using Steps 4-7, and then decide what your opening paragraph should say. The opening paragraph may be brief, but it should offer an overall statement of your perspective based on what you’ve learned (e.g., Before I read the articles for NUTR 456, I had never considered that Dietitians have a wide scope of practice and that the work setting largely dictates the scope of practice for dietitians.) Then go on to describe which readings affected your thinking and why. You could disagree with some of the readings or ideas. The conclusion your reflection may also be brief (e.g., I did not know the difference between the SOP and SOPP before reading the articles, and now I understand that the SOP and the SOPP are related to each other in the following ways……..).

This involves finding the person, contacting them and conducting an interview

First, interview someone doing the job you would someday like to have. This involves finding the person, contacting them and conducting an interview (face-to-face, phone, video, email….). What I’d like you to focus on is going from the point you are now in life to how you can land the type of job you are seeking. Since this is a communication course, I would like you to place an emphasis on the communication skills that are most relevant to that field. For example, if you want to become a doctor, interview a doctor. Ask him/her what type of schooling/experience/credentials they needed to get where they are now. This should help you realize what you need to be doing to stay on track with your goals. What is a typical day at work like for them? What kind of communication skills have been needed? I don’t just want you to provide generic responses like “all of them” or “speaking,” but provide some context, like maybe nonverbal skills when dealing one-on-one with patients but public speaking skills when delivering research findings at conferences and so forth. This is a chance for you to get the insider scoop on the career you are working hard to land. I want you to learn from the experience, so feel free to ask (and include in your paper) anything else about the field you discover.

Next, write a reflection about that experience (2-4 page range double spaced). BE SURE TO FULLY IDENTIFY YOUR SOURCE: full name, job title, where they work. Your paper should reflect on what you learned from this person, NOT written as a transcript (Q&A form). Scores will be determined both from the quality of content (info you gained/revealed) as well as the quality of writing
