Cosmic Creation Myths Across Cultures

Select at least two creation myths from two different cultures. For ideas, refer to this week’s readings and the myths section of the Big Myths website for animated presentations of many creation myths. Write a 600- to 875-word paper about the selected creation myths that answers two of the following questions: Which world or worlds, such as sky, earth, and underworld, are represented in the myths you chose? What are the elements of these worlds? Describe the creators. Are the creators male or female, and of what significance is gender? Describe what they created, including the steps or cycles of creation. Also, include descriptions of any destroyers or destruction, if applicable. Why is there such a focus on cosmic occurrences or natural phenomena like stars, moons, floods, rain, etc.? Compare the creators, creations, the steps or cycle of creation, and the cosmic elements of the two myths. What are the similarities and differences? Why do you think cosmic or creation myths are important to a culture? How do they shape a culture’s view of the world?

Sartre and Heidegger on being human

Sartre and Heidegger on being human Heidegger says the essence of Dasein is existence, and that each Dasein has its being to be. Sartre (in “Existentialism Is a Humanism”) says that with human beings existence precedes essence (his theory is also found in the selections from Being and Nothingness). Write a paper that explains, compares, and contrasts the ways the two philosophers understand human being. Be sure to add your thoughts on which account of human nature is better and why. The essay is based on the book we read Existentialism, 2nd , by Robert Solomon Oxford University Press, 2004 Please just use the parts on 1) Martin Heidegger -Being and Time 2)Jean-Paul Sartre – Existentialism Is a Humanism May use 1-2 outside source, but mainly focus on the Solomon text. Must list any such source in your reference list. You must also indicate within the body of your paper, using a footnote or parenthetical note, when you’re using that source and indicate the page number of the source. When compare two philosophers, better provide example/life experience to show your understanding towards the topic. Please consider it’s an intro to philosophy class, don’t make the points too deep and hard to understand.

The role suffering plays in Night, a memoir by Elie Wiesel

In a five to six page typed MLA-formatted essay, consider the concepts of logotherapy, specifically excerpts from Viktor Frankl’s “An Inner Freedom” and the role that suffering plays in Night. Through a careful selection of key scenes, analyze at least four events in which Elie, his father, and/or his fellow Jews suffer and how this suffering eventually changes Elie’s perspective and identity. Focus in paticular on Frankl’s idea that suffering adds meaning to life and how Elie eventually reconciles his experiences at the concentration camp and the loss of his family. Use Dostoyevsky’s quotation: “There is only one thing that I dread; not to be worthy of my sufferings.” and Frankl’s excerpt from “An Inner Freedom” and Elie’s interview with Oprah to inform, develop, and deepen your judgement of Elie’s perspective and meaning of his life after the Holocaust. The majority of the essay should focus on Night. Support your judgement based on key evidences in the novel to argue your strong judgement. Use the funnel-paragraph essay format where you clearly state your judgement in a thesis statement at the end of the first paragraph. Use direct quotations- narrative, dialogue, and scenes. There can be more than just four scenes of suffering with a maximum of six scenes.
