Rationale: In class, we watched a CNBC documentary about Ted Turner and his media empire. For this assignment, you will watch another documentary about a media giant.

Below you will find a list of documentaries you can choose from as well as likely places to access that content. You can watch the documentary with friends, so grab

some popcorn and split the cost of the download. But, all of your research and writing must be done independently.

Directions: Below, you will find links to five documentaries on Media Giants from various industries. If none of these suit you, you can propose another documentary to

the professor in writing no later than noon, Sunday March 29 for approval. After watching your documentary, you will engage in outside research on your Media Giant,

gathering 5 additional sources about your Giant or his/her media innovation. You will write a 2-3 page paper using your research as outlined below. In addition, you

will provide complete citations for all 5 sources that you have referenced in your paper.

This is an individual assignment. You will need to do outside research (as described above) to complete this assignment. Additionally, you partner must properly

attribute and cite any ideas that are not your own — whether you are paraphrasing content from the class textbooks or directly quoting material using the APA Style

citation skills you learned in class. You are responsible for every aspect of this project, including ensuring that it complies with NUQ Academic Integrity standards.

All assignments are submitted to TurnItIn, a plagiarism detection software program. Violations of academic integrity (intentional or unintentional) will be referred to

the NUQ Academic Integrity committee.

Questions to Consider:

What struggles did your “Giant” overcome? How have his/her contributions changed the media industry? What is the significance of those contributions? What were the

keys to his/her success? How can you apply lessons learned from the “Giant’s” success to your own career path?

Grading Rubric:

20 points: Quality of the outside research you do on your “Media Giant.” Use strong sources that Rovach and Rosenstiel would approve of based on The Skeptical Way of

Knowing. HINT: Wikipedia isn’t on their list. Correct citation to sources in proper APA style is key.

20 points: Your discussion of your “Giant,” his/her innovations in the field and how those innovations will impact your future in media.

20 points: Connect your “Giant” and his/her innovations to the material we’ve covered in lecture and readings.

15 points: Writing matters. Proper usage, syntax, capitalization, punctuation and spelling are important. Organizational structure and professional tone are also key.

The project to be managed is the establishment of a boutique.
The boutique will be in Abu Dhabi, UAE (for price reference, IF NEEDED [Prices could be completely virtual]) and the main idea is to invite online merchants on the

various social media applications, such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc,. to have their merchandise (Of any kind, varying from womens clothing to food merchants

and even T-shirt designers..) in the boutique, as most of these online merchants don’t actually have the physical place for people to visit and see/touch the

merchendise first-handed as many people prefer vs. online shopping. The idea is to centralize and make online merchandise tangible for people who are hesitant to try

buying these things online. It will both make people trust the merchants more, as their merchandise is available and has been solidly proven to be trustworthy and give

the merchants a boost to their sales due to the media coverage that the boutique will be having.

The only concern is to get the physical place, staff, decoration, etc,.
Invite the merchants and make them feel comfortable depending on what their merchandise would need (clothing would need wardrobes and clothing stands while food would

need fridges or freezers, etc,.).
And lastly, the media coverage or the advertisement that would attract costumers.
