Ethics in Healthcare: Mrs. Jones is a forty five-year-old multiparous woman who has been healthy all her life

Read the following article from the ProQuest database Online Library. It will help you address the question better.
Cassell, J. & Young, A. (2002). Why we should not seek individual informed consent for participation in health services research. J Med Ethics, 28(5), 313-317.
Ethics guidelines now require that individuals give informed consent to participate in research. Existing ethical guidelines do not help us decide how to seek consent and have allowed managerial experimentation to remain unchecked.
Based on your understanding of the topic and the article, answer the following question:
Do you think that alternative forms of community consent should be actively pursued? Why or why not? How would you feel if your medical records were examined and included in research without your consent based on an illness in the past?

Discussion Question 2
Scenario
Mrs. Jones is a forty five-year-old multiparous woman who has been healthy all her life. She is in active labor with her fourth child, but shortly after labor began she suffered severe hemorrhage, loss of consciousness, and hypotension. Her blood pressure normalized when intravenous saline was given, but the loss of consciousness and bleeding continued. Her hematocrit is now dangerously low at 18%. Immediate blood transfusions are medically indicated and it is likely that the bleeding will continue unless surgery is performed. Mrs. Jones identified herself as a Jehovah’s witness. She has always been capable of making her own decisions and had stated previously because of religious beliefs, she could not receive blood transfusions under any circumstances. The obstetrician explains to her husband that her life is in danger and he cannot be responsible by this prohibition against transfusing of blood. Mrs. Jones is unconscious. Her husband told the doctor to proceed with treatment to save his wife and child without her consent, even though his wife was adamant about no blood transfusion because of religious beliefs. A nurse was present when Mrs. Jones stated she wanted no transfusion. This was not documented in the chart.
Based on the scenario, answer the following questions:
•Should the physician continue without her consent even though she was adamant about no blood transfusions?
•Would the elements of informed consent be met? Why or why not?

It is determined that people felt a sense of unhappiness with themselves due to social comparison

#1) in a study done by the University of Michigan geared towards college-aged individuals, researchers found that the more that these individuals used Facebook, the worse they felt. Researchers conducted testing on 82 people. Their happiness was then measured by said researchers texting them five times a day for two weeks. It is determined that people felt a sense of unhappiness with themselves due to social comparison. By looking at what everyone else is up to, they get a glimpse into the fun and amazing things that they aren’t doing. However, Facebook, and social media for that matter, is where people can essentially post the highlight reels of their life. Meaning, social media is only showing the good that people are encountering, rather than the other struggles that they are possibly facing. If we look at this situation using conflict theory, this would further prove the idea that although socialization is important, social inequalities also play a role in socialization. Rather, the idea of social inequalities have a big impact on this situation, because people are comparing their average or worst moments in life to other individuals best moments in life.

#2) Technology has taken a great change in our society because it is affecting the society starting with the house hold. This is where we see due to the new technology devices, families don’t have time or spend time together because each and every member is hooked up internet. Life style is changing as the technology upgrades. Those who created Facebook, tweeters and google came up with those ideas in order to be able to make communication better but instead it changed the socialization to be screen talk instead of face to face. Come to think family members texting while in the same house instead of face to face. As a result conflict theory comes up and many more websites are now available because people want to see who is more powerful. And one of the speakers Dawesar calls digital now a stream of tie that is parallel to the present but also a competition with it.
We see conflict perspective coming in because those who are in power want to control everything that can suit their lives but also to control in order to maintain peace too. We have the case of CIA agent who leaked information as a good example of how technology can be a threat and why the people in power has to take control. Many years ago before the invention of computers and phones there was not much conflict in our society because the communication was not that good. Nowadays technology has taken communication to different level and the more it is getting better the more the conflicts. those who are in power has to step in to take control because they do not want their businesses to be in jeopardy due to the increased cyber insecurities.

Which parts of the text do you find most effective and why? What rhetorical strategies does Lukacs employ to make his arguments? What is the persuasive intent of the text? Do you notice any patterns? Are there common themes or objectives?
