Building From the Past

Alarm Information:
You, as the officer of Engine 76, are responding to a fire reported in the cellar of a one-story tailor shop.

Construction and Layout:
The construction of the building is ordinary, and it was built in 1928. The building has a flat roof. There is a set of stairs leading to the cellar at the rear of the store that can be accessed via a side door near the C/D corner. There are steel roll-down gates over the front windows and the door. The tailor shop has recently expanded to occupy the insurance agency. It was an offer they could not refuse. The cellar is common under both stores, and some renovation, including a wall breach between the two occupancies, has been underway.

Exposures:
There is an attached four-story, mixed, commercial-residential occupancy on the exposure B side. On the D side of the fire structure is a parking lot used for a bank, which is exposure D1. The rear exposure is unknown.

Time and Weather:
The time is 0430 hours. The tailor shop closed at 1800 hours, but the patrons have been known to conduct “business” well after midnight. There is a slight breeze toward the D exposure. The temperature is 69°F.

Water Supply:
Water supply has never been an issue in this area.

Arrival Conditions:
Upon arrival, you can see that there is evidence of a heavy smoke condition, with a distinct glow in the cellar. There is a heavy smoke condition on the first floor. As you are making the report of a working fire, a civilian informs you that some of the people who work in the tailor shop live illegally in the cellar.

Response:
Two engines and a ladder company are on the response, along with a chief officer. Three personnel staff the engine companies, an officer and two firefighters. The ladder is staffed by an officer and three firefighters. All additional alarms bring two engines, a ladder, and an additional battalion chief.

“New Hampshire Tourism” Experience

New Hampshire “Tourism” Experience.
This assignment requires students to visit and to write about their experience at a “major special event” or visit to a “key
tourist attraction” in New Hampshire. The goal of this assignment is to provide students the opportunity to critically
assess a “tourist” experience from a variety of perspectives. See http://www.visitnh.gov/what-to-do/event-calendar.aspx
for a listing of “major special events” happening in NH this fall or http://www.visitnh.gov/what-to-do/keyattractions/default.aspx
for a listing of key tourist attractions in NH. The required paper associated with this assignment
must include an introduction; a description of all relevant details associated with the “tourist” experience (i.e., where and
when your experience took place, who accompanied you, how you traveled to the “event or “attraction”, what you did
before and after the event or the visit to the attraction), a summary of what you learned from completing this assignment,
and it should be well organized with headings and sub-headings for all relevant sections of one of the two options. Both
options requires the same procedures as all other writing assignments prepared for this course (i.e., proof read first draft
that you retain, and a final submitted on time, etc.). Students are required to prepare a 6-8 page paper on a word processor
your choice of one of the following two options:
Option 1: Tourism Experience: This assessment of a “key tourist attraction” or a “major special event” requires the
systematic collection of information about the entire experience from beginning to end. Your assessment must include the
following components: (1) information search, and (2) an assessment from two perspectives.
Information Search. The goal of the section is to collect information on a specific “key tourist attraction” or a “major
special event”. Your paper should identify the source and describe the information obtained. You should use the
following sources of information to complete your review and make your make your decision.
? Personal Experience (i.e., What does your personal experience tell you about the special event or the tourist
attraction? Have you had prior experiences with the event or attraction or a similar experience and recollections
from other tourist experiences?).
? Evaluation of the Event or Attraction’s Web Site (i.e., How easy was it to find the WEB Site? How easy was it to
navigate the WEB site? What was most useful in learning about the event or attraction? How would you rate the
quality and quantity of information on the Web Site? What did you learn about the experience? Was the web site
visually stimulating? How did the images make you feel? How would you rate the quality and quantity of
information? What information was missing?)
? Personal Interviews with three Different Audiences (e.g. college students, parents, friends, co-workers, other
tourists, employees, volunteers, etc.). These sources of information will help you learn about what other people think about the event or attraction. Their opinions/comments can be based on prior experience, word of mouth,
and/or personal opinions.
A view from Two Perspectives. This part of the assignment involves considering the event or attraction that you
chose to attend from two perspectives (at least two or three paragraphs on each perspective).
? The perspective of a student/traveler completing a class assignment. This bulleted section should include your
personal perspective (i.e., What did you expect? What was the reality?). This section should include an overall
evaluation of your level of satisfaction with your experience and this “assignment” and why they feel you feel that
way. This section should also include your suggestions for improving the both quality of the “attraction” or
“special event” experience and the quality of this assignment.
? The perspective of the Owner/Manager of the Attraction or manager of the special Event. This bulleted section
should be written from the perspective of the owner/manager of the attraction or event. I am not asking you to
“guess what the owner/manager” is thinking, rather, I am interested in reading how you would respond to the
following types of questions as if you were the owner/manager of the company/special event based on your
experience and other sources of knowledge: What would be your goals for the business/event if you were
responsible? What would be your greatest challenges and concerns if you owned the company? What would be
the best part of owning this business? The worst part? What would you do to improve your business? Why?).
Your selection of this option will help me understand your experience and what you learned from it relative to a
variety of the goals for this course (see course outline). It can be also be of value to owners/managers of tourist
attractions and events, providing important insights to improve the quality of the tourist experience, to improve
operations and effectiveness, and to make decisions about how the operation is doing and how they may affecting
the tourists, residents, the community and the environment. The paper must include an introduction and
conclusion, and make liberal use of heading and sub-heading to guide the reader through your paper with
appropriate explanations.

Comparing the movie and the book of Persepolis

The prompt is attached but briefly the topic is a comparison between the book and the film of Persepolis. You should scrutinize e characters, theme, plot. Please as you see in the attachment, choose the political view so that you can compare the book and the movie with reality. Please make sure that you mention the islamic revolution as a limitation of life. As a daily life example please similarize the issue going in Turkey with the prime minister. I’m from Turkey and our leader is wants people to wear the veils, not drink alcohol at all, limit the rights of people and mostly women in order to make the democratic country a Islamic one. There’s a huge similarity between the demand of Erdogan in Turkey and the leader of Iran at that time. Please read additional information about the issue on Turkey from internet. The most important thing is to relate the information of both the movie and reality to the book.
– The film that we covered in class was an animated movie of Persepolis. One part of the movie was the return of Marjane from Austria to Iran. She is wearing the veil but even though only a tiny part of her hair is visible in passport check they force her to wear it properly. The government became so firm.
The other part that I remember was at the party in Austria, one boy was trying to communicate with Marjane and at that time he asked the nationality of her and Marjane hesitated to tell her nationality directly. After the party, grandmother asked her why she didn’t tell her nationality and it was because she was ashamed of her country.
A part from these examples, please use other examples from this animated film which is online. Please mention the characteristics of the main character and the things going on the society. The revolution is very important as I’m scrutinizing the essay politically.

War and Terrorism: Ethics in Practice. An Anthology

Book: Ethics in Practice. An Anthology 4th edition by Hugh Lafollette

Purpose is to discuss the ideas of at least one author from our text. They further specify that discussion is to include at least one paragraph explaining their ideas and at least another showing how those ideas relate to the example you have chosen.

they specify you are to discuss the ideas of at least ONE AUTHOR from our text. They further specify that discussion is to include at least one paragraph explaining their ideas and at least another showing how those ideas relate to the example you have chosen.

The introduction must inform the reader of the topic you will address, mention any sources you plan to draw from in making your argument (such as the specific example of the issue you are writing about and the authors whose ideas you will discuss), and indicate the specific point the essay is intended to support (also known as your “thesis”). It is often good to open with a general statement of an important problem, a rhetorical question, or some sort of dramatic flourish which will attract your reader’s interest before narrowing in on the specifics of the paper. ii. The “body” of your essay should present the relevant details of the example you are using immediately after the introduction. The example may be real or fictional (e.g. taken from a film), but it cannot be a hypothetical of your own invention. The point is that in principle, respect for your reader dictates that you should use an example which leaves them the option of fact-checking your details instead of having to depend on you for their accuracy. In some cases, if the author makes reference to a real case, further research on (and presentation of) the details of that case may suffice, but merely mentioning an example from the text will not suffice. To demonstrate a strong understanding of the ideas, you need to show how they apply to an example that is not already explained to you. iii. Next, present the ideas of the author which you will use to analyze the example. Do so in enough detail for me to tell you have understood those ideas well. This means demonstrating that you understand not only the conclusion(s) the author supports, but also his/her reasons for doing so. iv. Show how those ideas apply to your example, indicating what you believe the author would have to say about it and why. The point here is that I want to see whether you can correctly show the author’s ideas apply in cases where that application is not already explained to you. v. Offer your reasons for agreeing or disagreeing with what you presented in step iv. (If you are only writing about one author, this step might turn out to be your conclusion.) vi. If you are discussing a second author, step iii must be repeated with regard to their ideas as well. vii. If you are discussing a second author, step iv must also be repeated. Note: if you plan to support one and oppose the other, discuss the one you oppose first. viii. If you are discussing a second author, step iv must also be repeated. (If you are discussing two authors, this step may turn out to be your conclusion.) ix. If you have additional observations of your own to add, or broader claims to make regarding the point you have shown in this paper, place them in the final paragraph, which will then be your conclusion. If you have personal experiences to relate, which shed light on your reasons for thinking as you do, this would be the best place to present them(this may mean your concluding section turns out to be more than just one paragraph).
