Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) of Juveniles in the Juvenile Justice System

For this assignment, please use the readings provided as well as information and data at the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) web page, Children Defense Fund web page, CDF Fact Sheets (https://www.childrensdefense.org/library/data/state-data-repository/cits/), Annie E. Casey Foundation Data such as: Reducing Racial Disparities in Juvenile Detention https://www.aecf.org/resources/reducing-racial-disparities-in-juvenile-detention/, Reducing Youth Incarcerationhttps://www.aecf.org/m/resourcedoc/AECF-DataSnapshotYouthIncarceration-2013.pdf, 2015 Kids Count Data Book https://www.aecf.org/resources/the-2015-kids-count-data-book/, or others you may find. For this assignment, you will be writing as if you are doing a presentation for juvenile justice professionals (police, prosecutors, PO’s, defense attorneys, judges, youth development workers, etc.) at a national conference on the underlying causes of disproportionate minority youth contact (DMC) with the juvenile justice system in the United States. The focus of this presentation is NOT on youth behavior per se. BASED ON YOUR READINGS the focus of your workshop is on factors outside of the control of individual youth that impact DMC. This includes larger societal/community issues as well as juvenile justice policies/systemic problems that contribute to or cause DMC. The first part of the presentation should be outlining and giving an overview of the factors in society and the juvenile justice system contributing to DMC with explanation that non-BCJ student professionals would understand. The second part should be on the kinds of things that would need to change in the country as a whole and in the juvenile justice system to reduce DMC in the United States. The presentation documentation that you turn in can be either in PowerPoint format or in narrative in a regular Word document. If you use PowerPoint, include detailed notes demonstrating that you understand the material in detail. It should take the equivalent of information on 5-7 double-spaced pages to complete this assignment.

EXCEPTIONAL LIVES

Article Review • The review should be written in APA format- double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 font • There should be a cover page, 2 pages for the review, and a reference page (if you use any references from other articles or your text book, please put them as a reference) • Assignment will be uploaded to Turn-it-in *The assignment will not be accepted if the article is over 4 pages to include the cover and the reference page. The article review should consist of the following five sections: 1. An APA citation of the article you chose at the top of the page. Ex. Baber, C. R., Cooper, J. E., Kurtts, S., & Vallecorsa, A. (2008). A model for examining teacher preparation curricula for inclusion. Teacher Education Quarterly, 35(4), 155. 2. Reason for choosing the article (introduction to the review) Why this one? You can include a personal reaction to the issue/topic and the article itself here. 3. Brief summary of what the article is about I suggest you write this immediately after reading your article…when it is freshest in your mind. Summaries are difficult for most of us to do…so think of it as your “impression” of what it is about. This is not the place for detail after detail…that’s not a summary. A summary contains a balanced presentation of relevant ideas about the article so that…another person is able to tell what it is about. The suggested length is 1/2…much over a page and you are really beyond summarizing. 4. Assessment of the article This is the core of the review. I want you to assess the article critically…which doesn’t necessarily mean negatively. “Critically” here means going beyond surface reactions, delving into the why’s of the author’s thoughts and writing. For instance, what did you think of the article…what about the main theses/purposes of the author? How well did the author(s) state and support their position? What do they use to do so? What else do you feel needs to be said or examined besides the points the author(s) made? What relationship did the article have to your area of study? Could this article help you in your line of work? 5. Conclusion of the review This should be where you wrap it up and no more than a paragraph. Perhaps a final, overall summary of what you read and what more you would like or not like to see about the topic. PLEASE USE BOOK “EXCEPTIONAL LIVES, SPECIAL EDUCATION IN TODAYS SCHOOLS” BY ANN TURNBULL, RUD TURNBULL, MICHAEL L. WEHMEYER AND KARRIE A SHOGREN CHOOSE AN ARTICLE FROM THE BOOK AND FOLLOW THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS

Robin Hood Case Study

Assignment for BUS 525 Business Strategy & Planning Robin Hood Case Study Due: Midnight Sunday of Unit 2: In this Unit, we have presented material introducing initial important elements of the strategy planning process. Our focus this week is on the importance of understanding the stakeholders, the existing values and culture of the organization, and the development of quality mission & vision statements, Strategic Goals, and SMART Objectives. We are asking you to apply these concepts through an evaluation of the organization called Robin Hood’s Band of Merry Men. We highly recommend that you review the course material in Unit 2 prior to undertaking this assignment. In particular, pay close attention to the Audio Power Point Lecture and your assigned ASP Text readings. Additional articles and videos are presented in the Unit that apply to the Assignment as well. This assignment is based upon the Robin Hood Case Study document presented on the opening page of this Unit. In the Robin Hood Case Study, you will see that the organization, The Band of Merry Men, is facing many challenges. The Assignment calls for you to evaluate the Band of Merry Men as an organization, including its existing values, culture, and influential stakeholders, and to present your view of a mission, vision, an example Strategic Goal, and example SMART Objectives for the Robin Hood organization going forward. Note that in order to achieve a stated Vision, multiple Strategic Goals would be required. Also, to achieve each Strategic Goal, multiple SMART Objectives will be required. However, for this assignment, we are asking for only one example Strategic Goal, and then two SMART Objectives to help achieve the Strategic Goal. You will then be asked in the Conclusions section, to assess the alignment of the organization’s Culture with the Mission, Vision, Strategic Goal, and SMART Objectives you have proposed. Document Sections: • Subject and Purpose of the Paper (Brief introduction of the Band of Merry Men and a description of the purpose of the paper.) • Stakeholder Summary (Provide your view of the important Stakeholders that need to be considered, and describe their impact and/or influence on the Band of Merry Men and the development of the future direction.) • Description of the Organization’s Culture (All members of the Band will bring their own “personal” Values with them to Sherwood Forest. Organizational Culture is then defined as those personal values that are “shared” by the organization as a whole. This section is to focus on describing these shared values (culture), and identifying from your view the strengths and weaknesses in the current Culture that the Band embraces.) • Proposed Mission (Provide your view of the Mission of the Band of Merry Men through presenting a clear Mission Statement and brief explanation.) • Proposed Vision (Provide your view of the Vision that the Band of Merry Men should seek to achieve in the future through presenting a clear Vision Statement and brief explanation.) • Example Strategic Goal (Present one example Strategic Goal that the Band should pursue to help it achieve the Vision you presented. The Strategic Goal is to be presented as a broad reaching “statement”. Include a brief explanation of the rationale for the Strategic Goal.) • Proposed SMART Objectives (Present two example SMART Objectives that will help the Band of Merry Men translate the stated Strategic Goal to reality. The SMART Objectives are to be presented as statements that fully meet S-M-A-R-T requirements. Refer to Unit 1 material presented on SMART Objectives. Note that we are only asking for two SMART Objectives, even though more than two would likely be required to fully achieve your stated Strategic Goal). • Conclusions (This section is to address the degree of alignment of the existing Culture of the Band of Merry Men with the Mission, Vision, Strategic Goal, and SMART Objectives presented. Is the organization well positioned to seek its Vision, or will it face barriers going forward caused by the current Culture?) Follow the outline of sections above and use section Headings for readability. You are free to add sections if you view it as appropriate. Your paper is to be up to 7 pages and must be written in “third person” language. You must follow APA Guidelines as presented in the APA Quick Style Guide found in Course Information. Also, follow the video in Course Information on setting up a Word document under APA format requirements. Income Inequality

Should we be concerned with the degree of income inequality within both the advanced and developing counties and, if so, what should be done about it? Picketty’s (2014) Capital in the Twenty First Century, Stiglitz’s (2012) The Price of Inequality and Atkinson’s (2015) Inequality – What Can be Done? Have all drawn attention to the remarkable increase in inequality in the last thirty years or so and also the increase in the share of wealth and income of the top one percent, especially in the UK and the US. The World Bank and the IMF has extended this concern to the developing countries. In particular, their studies have found that an increase in income inequality lowers the rate of economic growth. Implicit in these arguments is that this degree of inequality is in some sense socially undesirable. However, a defence of the earnings of the top one percent has recently been put forward by Mankiw (2013). Carefully assess these arguments and the policies that have been suggested to reduce inequality. However, if inequality is not a cause for concern are the suggested policies likely to do more harm than good?
