Goal Setting and Action Plan

I am finishing my BA in History to utilize in my software technology career.

In Module 6, activity 3, you pictured yourself as new graduate working in a job/career you aspired to achieve. You have the motivation and the drive to get there!

Let’s pause for a moment and take a closer look at the steps you need to take to reach your destination. Whatever your goals, whatever stage you are at in the decision making process, you are most likely to make good progress if you break down the tasks you have to do into small steps (short term goals), and then identify the actions you need to take for each step.

To realize your future job or career, you will need to set specific, realistic goals to create a workable action plan. But exactly how do you establish these goals, design this plan, and get the results you want?

1.View the brief PowerPoint on goals, action plans, and next steps:
Goal Setting and Action Plans [PDF file size 127 KB]
2. Read and review the handouts on goals and action plans:
SMART Goals [file size 16 KB]
What Is an action plan? [file size 20.8 KB]
What Is a Career Goal? [file size 22.3 KB]

3. Create your Action Plan: Based upon the readings, your previous research, and reflection use the Sample Action Plan and Template [file size 43 KB] (second page) to create your own action plan. Create this plan using the same occupation of interest you worked with in previous activities. Or, you may use another long term career goal of your choice, perhaps the completion of your college degree. You will need to identify at least one long term goal, and the steps that you would take to reach that goal.

4. Submit this to your instructor as an assignment via the drop box.

5. Now go to M7D1 Discussion questions and participate in this discussion.

Go Green Outline: Please follow

I. Introduction
A. Background of the Problem
In the past decade, environmental degradation has increased and this has exerted great pressure on the ecosystems around us. Global warming is increasing as greenhouse gases continue to be released into the atmosphere. Human activities have been behind such degradation. As a result, solving the problem is important since it may crate sustainability of the future generations.
B. Statement of Purpose
The sole purpose of this proposal will be to analyze a strategy that may be adopted by the organization towards environmental protection. These strategies are broad and diverse. Taking the initiative to protect the environment should be a goal that all organizations should struggle to implement.
C. Sources and Methods
In the research proposal, there are several types of sources that I applied in discussing the strategy that can be used to go green. I consulted different online sources such as websites that discuss the importance of environmental protection. Most of these sites offer the timeline for pollution across the globe and also offer details about the increase in global temperatures in the last three decades.
D. Report Organization
In the research proposal, materials will be organization in three major categories. These categories include the benefits of the strategy, the cost associated with the strategy and the conclusion offering recommendations that organizations and homes may apply in the strategy.

II. Discussion
A. Solution and Benefits
The solution includes the use of solar energy to power the buildings within the organization. Some of the benefits include low maintenance, reduction in electricity bills, environmental friendly, and renewability of the energy source (Armentrout, 2012).
B. Costs
The strategy may involve some costs including installation of solar panels, wiring within the building, labor costs, and maintenance costs for the solar panels.
C. Conclusion and Recommendation
Solar energy unlike many sources of energy that are used today is renewable. Renewability of the energy source is an indication that it could power the buildings infinitely. It is also environmental friendly and would reduce the degradation that has been witnessed in the last three decades.

Origins of Terrorism

The weekly topic research article and critical analysis involves reading and posting a critical analysis of an article pertaining to counter terrorism strategies. For example, find an article on U.S. or another country’s counter terrorism strategy. Much has been published on the U.S. change to counter terrorism strategies since 9/11. You may want to find and discuss an article about profiling terrorists. Make sure article is not older than five years.

Personality Profile

Personality Profile Papers or PPT Shows

Purpose. Apply these theories to your own personality! The study of personality can seem extremely abstract. Each theorist proposes different ways of measuring or documenting individual differences and intrapersonal processes. The purpose of this short paper is to give you hands-on experience with the concrete elements of various perspectives, so you can see and feel what each theorist is talking about.

Task. You will be introduced to concepts, vocabulary and measures of personality for each perspective we study. Practice using these ideas and words to see how they apply to YOU. Each time you do an assessment, you should note for yourself what the results mean regarding your personality. The summaries will be useful in describing your personality from the perspective of psychodynamic theorists and trait theorists. NOTE: If you feel this is too personal an assignment, you may choose to write your personality profile on some famous person whose personality traits and functioning are known to the public. Please clear your choice with the instructor if you choose this alternate assignment.

Topics. In 3 to 4 pages, or 12 to 15 PPT slides, you will apply three different theories. You will only be able to cover selective elements of what you have learned about personality, so pick a few ideas to focus on from each of three perspectives. Topics you may choose to address in the papers are found throughout the syllabus and in each chapter of the text. In the end, you should describe your subject (yourself) through the eyes of at least three psychodynamic theories (theories covered in Chapters 1 through 6) for this assignment.

Use whichever theories seem applicable, pertinent, or appropriate within the broad school of thought. Review the terminology and “Personal Experiences” sections at the end of each chapter to identify some of the concepts you may apply to your own personality. Some examples are given below.

Process. Keep running notes each week about how your personality fits into each theory. Begin the paper or PPT with a BRIEF general introduction to the individual (you), then move smoothly into the first perspective you wish to take. Say which theory is being applied, and use the concepts from that theory, but do not waste time explaining the theory itself. Just put it to use describing yourself.

Use transition sentences to move from one theory to the next, making contrasts and comparisons between the various interpretations of your personality when possible. The paper should read smoothly from beginning to end, not as a series of disconnected one-paragraph essays. Type the paper with 1” margins, double spaced in a 12-point font, submitted as a Word document. Each paper should run about four to five pages or 12 to 15 PPT slides.

The paper or PowerPoint assessment is well done when it:

•clearly conveys a strong sense of the individual’s personality

•applies at least three different theories of personality, from 3 or more correctly identified theorists.

•uses assessments or application of terminology from each theory to explain personal characteristics

•is clearly written, with correct sentence structure, paragraph form, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Examples – Here are some ideas, but you are by no means limited to these topics. Please choose the ideas from each theorists which are most applicable to your experience.

1. Freud – defense mechanisms, dream analysis, Oedipal conflicts, slips of the tongue (parapraxis), character type, transference in a relationship

2. Jung – favored personality functions, development of individuation, archetypes, balance of opposites, mystical dreams

3. Adler – birth order, social interest, evidence of striving for superiority, compensation

4. Horney – basic anxiety driving perfectionism

5. Fromm – social motivations and character type

6. Sullivan – needs for security and close relationships

7. Erikson – What dynamics are operating at this stage of life? How do biological imperatives and social demands interact to drive your psychological growth? How is generativity expressed in your life?

Evaluation. This assignment is worth 50 points. Papers and presentations will be graded on clear presentation and analysis, accurate reference to each theory used, correct use of terms and constructs, and good college-level writing, including grammar, punctuation, spelling, organization, and neatness. Late papers may be accepted for reduced credit, with permission in advance from the instructor.

Economic Inequality, Wealth, and Poverty

An important part of this course is the term paper. This will be due in Module 7, and represents an opportunity for you to explore in-depth two social problems that are of great interest to you. I do understand that writing term papers can be anxiety-provoking. And I recall from my own experience as a student that much of this has to do with uncertainty regarding expectations. Thus, I want to do my best in providing you with detailed specific guidance to help you through this process. And remember that I am always available to answer questions as you move through the paper preparation process, either through email or by phone.

The reality is that there simply aren’t unlimited resources to address all the social problems that trouble American society. This means that in putting together their budgets legislators must prioritize the problems to which they will be allocating resources. Although they do allocate resources to address multiple social problems, each year they provide additional extensive funding to address one specific social problem that they deem to be of great significance. During the current legislative session they have been besieged by both lobbyists and the general public with requests to devote those extra resources to various social problems of concern to those groups. Not being experts in social problems, the legislators have called on you, as an expert in social problems, to write a report that will provide them with guidance on what social problem merits additional resources.

What they would like you to do is to analyze two social problems. The first is the problem that you conclude is of the greatest significance and thus merits the greatest amount of resources. The second is the problem that you conclude is of least concern, and that they should definitely not consider for those additional resources.

Thus in this paper you will be discussing two social problems, each of which will be selected from the problems that are the focus of chapters 2 through 11 in our textbook. You must select the two problems from different chapters. I encourage you to spend some time in making your choices because if you choose problems in which you have a lot of interest the paper will be enjoyable to research and write.

Your paper will follow the following structure, and include these seven sections in the following order.

Introduction – the mission of the paper and what will be covered in accomplishing the mission.
Full description of the social problem that you believe is of limited significance, and thus unworthy of the additional resources that are to be allocated by the legislature.
Your argument demonstrating that the minimal significance of the problem you have just described is limited.
Full description of the social problem that you believe is of the greatest significance, and thus very worthy of the additional resources that are to be allocated by the legislature.
Your argument demonstrating the significance of the problem you just described and why it is worthy of the additional resources.
Conclusion in which you briefly summarize your analysis and conclusion.
Reference section – List of sources you will be using in the paper. These must be in APA reference format.

Your paper must be 5 pages in length (not including the title and reference page), and supported with information from the following sources: the textbook, the video material in the course, and two additional peer-reviewed journal articles of your choice obtained from the Troy University online library. Plenty of information from each of these sources must be incorporated, cited, and referenced in support of your analysis.

The paper format, citations and references will be in APA format. Here is a link to a tutorial on APA to help you with this.

https://www.apastyle.org/learn/tutorials/basics-tutorial.aspx

With regard to writing, no more than a couple of brief quoted passages should be used in the paper and these should only be used to make a special point. The rest of the information you present from your sources should be paraphrased. This simply means that you rewrite the original language entirely in your own words and then follow with a citation. Do not retain any of the original language in your paraphrase. Here is the guidance provided by Troy University to help you with your citing, referencing, paraphrasing, and quoting.

A grading rubric has been provided to help you in doing this paper. The grading rubric is what I will be using to review and grade your paper. Make sure to take a look at the grading rubric when you go through the paper preparation process. You will find this in the Helpful Resources section of the course. You will find a copy of this in the Helpful Resources section of the course.

I have also provided you with a checklist to use to help you to make sure that you have covered all the bases on this assignment. I encourage you to use this tool. A copy of this can also be found in the Helpful Resources section of the course.

Again, if you pick social problems in which you are interested, follow the guidance provided above, and always ask questions if anything is unclear to you, this will be an interesting assignment for you. Again, if you have any questions as you go through the paper preparation process please do not hesitate to let me know. I’m always willing to help you in order for you to maximize what you accomplish on our assignments.

Please submit your paper as a WORD file attachment, and don’t forget to check after you have submitted it to make sure that what you submitted is what you intended to submit. Thank you!

David M. Buss Contributions to Psychology

You will write a brief biography on David M. Buss These psychologists are ones who are either very briefly mentioned in your text or who are not mentioned at all but are very important in psychology. All of these people are psychologists who have done most of their work since 1950, and many are ones who are still working today. This biography allows you to gain in-depth understanding of a psychologist who has had a major impact on psychology. At a minimum, you should include a brief personal history (e.g., birth, upbringing, marriage, etc.), education, important works in psychology (cite and discuss research or books they have written, with special attention to the most important works they have done), and other professional accomplishments (e.g., president of APA, winner of awards). You must cite your sources for the information. Seek out journal articles or books written about them (sometimes prestigious journals run articles or obituaries, and these can be good sources of reliable information). Referencing the actual journal article or book the person wrote is also a good idea when you specifically talk about a seminal article or book they wrote. The biography should be 6-10 double-spaced typed pages.

I will provide an very brief outline
