Locate a high profile tort law liability case, such as the McDonald’s hot coffee case (however, please do not use this case). Choose a case that involves a person who was physically injured, such as in cases involving toxic torts, pharmaceutical companies, or products liability. You could even try Googling for “controversial tort law cases.” You may want to put the search terms above (e.g., toxic torts, important products liability cases) into Westlaw. Think of important cases you have heard about over the years: The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, the BP Gas Explosion, the Union Carbide Bhopal case, even the O.J. Simpson wrongful death case . . . something along these lines. Once you find a case that interests you, read through the case details and consider the following: • What are the implications of the case? • Why might the public be interested in this case? • Has this case caused the public to create laws or create policy? You may need to perform additional research on your case to find the answer to these questions. Using the information you learned in the Case Briefing presentation on how to brief a case, post a summary of your chosen case, along with a discussion of the above questions, to the Discussion Board.
