Stages of Implementation
Consensus involves the staff understanding the need for change, and their beliefs that they have the necessary skills to implement the initiative or will receive the support required to develop the skills. Action steps should include the following: 1) Provide information and coordinate with district administrators; 2) provide information to school staff and others about RtI; 3) identify consensus level (survey information) necessary for implementation; 4) determine next steps; and 5) plan to support the change initiative.
Infrastructure Building requires the structures necessary to facilitate and support implementation of the RtI/MTSS framework. Schools have finite resources (i.e., time, personnel, funding, materials, technology) to invest in new practices. Action steps should include the following: 1) Form a leadership team; 2) leadership team receives appropriate training and skill development to the lead the RtI initiative; 3) complete the Beliefs Statement and the Self-Assessment of Problem-Solving Implementation SAPSI with a member of your school?s RtI team. Implementation is used to describe the extent to which RtI practices are implemented in schools. Educational leaders must evaluate the degree to which components of an RtI initiative are implemented with fidelity and integrity prior to evaluating outcomes.
