Communication and Investigative Interviewing of People with Intellectual Disabilities

Plan for interview
This should provide a useful guide for interviewers who need to interview a person with an intellectual disability. It should contain items such as those referred to in the extant literature (e.g. Collin’s (2009) book) as well as aspects highlighted in the relevant uk laws and guidance.
It should be written in such a way that this would be able to used generally for joint interviewers and not related to a specific person. It may, however, be useful for you to think of several different people with intellectual disabilities in order that your plan would help to identify each person’s abilities to enable him or her to provide as full an account as possible. This includes individual and environmental factors – and a relationship between the two.
