Your critique should be self-standing. Assume the reader has not read the original research paper, but is quite knowledgeable of the content of this unit.

* Is there a clear rationale or problem statement?
* How has the researcher indicated a sound grasp of the corpus of research knowledge from the research area supposedly being investigated in the research study?
* How has the researcher shown how the research issues/questions being investigated emerged from the corpus of knowledge from the area of research?
* How clear and unambiguous are the research issues/questions?
* So what? Why are the questions/issues worth investigating? Was this established in the paper itself and do you agree with it?
Appropriateness of the research design and conclusions with respect to the issues/ questions being investigated
What design or approach was used to answer the research questions?
How adequate was the sampling technique/participant selection?
Were the choices of data collection procedures appropriate to the research aims?
Were data collection procedures clearly described?
The quality of the analysis and validity / trustworthiness of the research
What methods of data analysis were used? Were these methods appropriate to answer the research question/s?
Were the analytical processes clearly described?
Were issues of reliability and validity, or trustworthiness adequately addressed?
