Current Business Article Analyses
Each student is required to develop a sort of “case analysis” from a recently published business article (published January 2013 or after) from a business or current events publication. The article you select for this analysis should outline a current business dilemma or new development related to the week’s topics. The subject matter of the article/case analysis must have some relevancy to the section topics/chapters scheduled for lecture and discussion during the week you are assigned to have this prepared for class. Your analysis and questions should essentially describe the highlights of the article, why you think it is relevant to one of the topics, and your thoughts about the problem being faced or the new development within a particular business, corporation, organization, or brand. Good publication sources are: Business Week, The Economist, Fortune, Forbes, Brandweek, Ad Age, Wall St Journal, Newsweek, Time, U.S. News & World Report. PLEASE NOTE YOU MAY NOT USE AN ARTICLE DOWNLOADED FROM THE INTERNET unless the publication also has a hard copy version. By this I mean that an article from anyone’s private website or organization that does not have a publication is not considered a valid, credible source of information. However, most of the major business publications have a hard copy version, so the downloaded article would be fine.
Case Analysis written portion: You are required to develop a two-page case analysis from this article. Included in the 2 pages are: a one-page (double-spaced, font size 10-12) summary of the main points discussed in the article and why you believe it is an important case to look at for that particular section/topics/chapter, AND you must also prepare five (5) relevant questions for class analysis related to the article AS WELL AS your own answers and/or ideas related to these questions (minimum ONE FULL page to the question answers, doubled-spaced, font size 10-12). The actual article from the magazine, photocopy, or downloaded version of the article must be submitted to me as well on that day, stapled to the back of your written analysis.
Article should be related on these topics
• Improving decisions with marketing research information.
• Five-step approach to marketing research.
• Types of research in marketing field.
I prefer to use Bloomberg Businessweek. Also don’t forget to send me the copy of the article so that I can print it out.
