person living with a specific disability or disadvantage, and to appreciate how counselling
may assist her or him in relation to ‘lived experience’. The individually prepared written
assignment should be an essay or report format of approximately 2500 to 3000 words and
should include background information about the chosen disability or social disadvantage on
which your work is based. Draw on your responses to weekly readings and journal entries (if
you have chosen to complete them) to help illustrate your understanding of the issues and
concerns raised in the paper; you can use brief specific quotes or paraphrasing from your prior
work, including dates of entry. It is suggested that you then approach your work as a ‘case
study’ about the impact of the disability or disadvantage and what approaches to counselling
may be helpful.
