Fatty Acids

 This is the assignment:

*Choose one class of fatty acids (saturates, omega-3, omega-6, trans, or conjugated linoleic acids (CLA)). Write a short paper (1000 words) with at least 5 references explaining differences in dietary effects among specific fatty acids. Figures and tables necessary to understanding do not count for words but captions and titles do count. Specifically comment on alternative mechanisms, if any, that limit or invalidate the interpretation.
*If you choose in vitro studies, explain or speculate about how they might influence organismal metabolism.
*Major fatty acids in each class:
– Saturates: 12:0, 14:0, 16:0, 18:0
– Branched chain fatty acids : iso and anteiso saturated fatty acids
– Omega-3: 18:3, 20:5, 22:5, 22:6
– Omega-6: 18:2, 20:3, 20:4, 22:4, 22:5
– Trans: 18:1 isomers (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12)
– CLA: cis-9, trans-11-18:2, trans-10, cis-11-18:2

I’d personally prefer if you choose to talk about omega-3 or trans fatty acids as there are lots of articles about them, but again feel free to choose any of them. Thank you!
