You must earn a grade of ?C? or higher on the Research Paper to pass the course.
Length
1750-2000 words (approximately 7-8 pages); please stay within the assigned length, and please put your word count at the end of your essay. (Only include the title and text of your essay in your word count; exclude quotations and course identification information.)
Your topic will need to be refined so that you can make a well-defined and persuasive argument and create your particular thesis based on your stance. Keep in mind, your research topic and thesis must be narrowly enough defined for a 7-8 page paper.
In your argument of fact, you will use your research to present a detailed description of the problem/issue that is your focus, discuss historical roots and possible causes of the problem, explicate the consequences or ramifications of the problem, posit your recommendations for solutions, and indicate strategies for implementation of solutions. Your essay should also offer concessions and counter arguments or rebuttals to refute opposing side arguments.
Research
Consult pages 202-208 of Writing Logically, Thinking Critically, "A Quick Guide to Integrating Research into Your Own Writing." Observe the guidelines for blending quotations and paraphrases into your own writing, using a mixture of direct quotations, paraphrases, and summaries in your Research Paper. The "Punctuation and Format of Quotations" section, on page 206, provides directions for periods, commas, colons, and quotation marks.
Draw on at least 6 articles or books (print and electronic) to fulfill the research component of this assignment, enhancing the historical, explanatory, and argumentative aspects of your essay with reason, facts, and expert opinions.
At least 3 of your sources must be from peer-reviewed journals. Know what constitutes peer-reviewed or referred work.
Finally, you need to provide a Works Cited page at the end of your Research Paper, using MLA 2009-2010 Style. Your final Works Cited will only contain works you cite in your paper, and it may be somewhat different from the Preliminary Works Cited you submit with your RP Proposal.
