Friday, we will be doing a getting to know you activity that involves writing. For your homework, you will be preparing for said activity. Write a story to share with the class that tells us something about you as a person. I suggest that it is some sort of memory you have. It can be happy, funny, sad… whatever, but I draw the line at inappropriate. The story that you choose to share should be no longer than two minutes (when read out loud at a comfortable speed) and should use what you learned about showing rather than telling. Yes, as with all things, there needs to be a balance, but I expect that there be a good amount of showing in there. Showing is far more interesting and you do not want your classmates to be bored. This should test your ability to be entertaining and descriptive while being brief. A Tip on Being Brief: Consider carefully what story you will tell. The amount of information you need to cram into two minutes will drastically shape whether or not you can accomplish the task at hand. Bring a hard copy to class Friday.
