I. Introduction
State the goal of your research paper and discuss the broad problem under which your specific topic lies and narrow the discussion down to your topic. Discuss the significance of the problem and the possible benefits
of deriving a solution. Briefly describe the main topics your paper will address in realizing the paper’s
stated purpose. The Introduction should not exceed two (2) pages.
II. Literature Review
Briefly review the literature directly pertinent to your own topic. This section should demonstrate the
student’s library research abilities. The review of literature should include relevant citations in the area
in which the student proposes to research. The discussion should commence with the theoretical perspective
followed by relevant research. It is the purpose of this section to provide the logical background for the
hypothesis (es). In most cases this will primarily be empirical literature, but be sure to cover the
theoretical and conceptual literature as well. Demonstrate you’re cognizant of the issues and problems
pertaining to your topic by reviewing at least five (5) research articles. Summarize the purpose, the data
(sample size, collection, etc.), and the conclusions of each study and explain its relevance to your
research topic.
III. Statement of the Problem- Hypothesis (es)
Refine the topic discussed in the Introduction by stating the research problem and research question in a
short, clear and concise manner. Identify the dependent variable and independent variables associated with
your research question. State the relevant hypotheses the paper will address. Be very explicit in your
statements, making sure that there are no misinterpretations and misunderstanding of what you intend to
cover.
IV. Methodology
Discuss how you plan to pursue your study. State the test instruments and statistical tools/techniques you
will employ. Describe the target population and sampling procedure, including size and selection method.
Specify what data you intend to use and whether you will use primary or secondary data. Explaining the
instrument used; evidence of compliance with the regulation on the protection of human subjects. Define your
dependent and independent variables.
V. Data Analysis
You will put the heading, however, leave this section blank. We are only completing the proposal in this
course; therefore, you are NOT actually conducting the research!
VI. Implications of Proposed Research
This section should briefly indicate why the research is important, i.e. how the findings will contribute to
the research already conducted in the area as well as to practical application in the field.
VII. Appendix (if applicable)
This section should include any instrument(s) the student proposes to use, if applicable. For example, you
may have located a questionnaire you would use to conduct the research.
