Leadership Behaviors: Different organizational dynamics create different leadership needs

Global Leadership
Introduction
Different organizational dynamics create different leadership needs. Organizations that operate globally must have leaders who are oriented toward and capable of functioning in a cross-cultural context. Think for a moment about how you might lead in a global organization or in an organization in a foreign country. What cultural differences might you encounter? How might you embrace such differences? Now consider what competencies you might need to be effective. How might you appreciate diversity and build unity at the same time? What skills might you use to connect customers, vendors, and employees from different cultures?

This week, you will consider behaviors exhibited by leaders in various countries. You also will examine cultural dimensions related to a specific country and examine how they might impact your ability to be a successful leader in that country. Finally, you will consider specific global leadership competencies that might contribute to your development as a leader.

Leadership Behaviors

being a global leader requires the capacity to successfully conduct business internationally while embracing diversity. Embracing diversity calls for an understanding of accepted leadership behaviors in other countries, which might vary considerably. Global leaders must be willing to welcome and assume a variety of perspectives and behaviors, bring sensitivity to ethnic nuances, and be flexible regarding the values of different countries. At the same time, they must also encourage people to find a common ground that enables them to work cohesively.
To prepare for this Assignment:
• Review Chapter 15 in the course text, Leadership: Theory and Practice. Pay particular attention to leadership behaviors exhibited in various countries.

• Select two countries, from different country clusters, of interest to you. Consider how the leadership behaviors in the countries you selected are similar to and different from each other.

With these thoughts in mind:

Write a comparison (similarities and differences) of leadership behaviors in two different countries. Then describe at least one insight you gained as a result of your comparison.

Note: Identify the countries you chose in the first line of your post. You will be asked to respond to a colleague who chose at least one country that you did not.
