Throughout our course, guided by the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we have focused on issues of self-determination (both national and individual), freedom, and human rights. For this essay, I ask that you use the Week 4, 5 and 6 Readings to factually describe, examine and reflect on these three issues (self-determination, freedom, human rights) as they relate to key developments and problems of a post-1945 world, and to the continuing relevance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In your evaluation of the readings, to what extent did the Universal Declaration of Human Rights anticipate the needs and problems of future generations? What needs and problems revealed in the readings did the Universal Declaration of Human Rights fail to anticipate? Be sure to provide specific historical examples and context to support your general evaluation!
To write your essay, you will need to make use of the following readings:
o Child Marriage readings in Week 6’s reading folder (this is required for all essays);
o Any two (2) additional readings from the Week 4, 5 and 6 reading folder (readings range from Anti-Apartheid activism; Civil Rights movements; Environmentalism; Women’s Movements, to name a few).
o The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (which you read previously in this course)
o To provide historical context: relevant lectures and readings from the Hunt text.
