1- Themes and content
-Identify the key themes and issues that the essay needs to cover in order to address the essay question you have chosen: what content do you need to include? What content, however interesting you might find it, might not be relevant for this particular essay? Are there any particular writers whose arguments have been particularly influential in the subject you are writing about, and whose views and work you need to refer to? Is the subject/issue you are writing about the subject of major debate between different writers, and if so, do you need to draw attention to that fact by considering both (or more) sides of a debate in your essay?
2- Structure
– Having decided upon what content you need to cover, your plan needs to establish in what order you will cover it: what is the most logical structure for the essay? In what order do the points you make need to be addressed in order to most effectively answer the essay question?
