Coaches will gain a competitive edge by working harder and longer hours to be sure that every opportunity to win has been exhausted. Most coaches will always stay within the framework of the rules and regulations of the sport. However, many coaches and sport leaders embellish the meaning of sportsmanship when it involves competition. Techniques are taught that reach far beyond the boundaries of good sportsmanship. The two-part assignment will enhance the students understanding of sportsmanship while learning the many stakeholders who play a part in upholding it. Part 1 The Deflated State of Sportsmanship (Epstein, 2015) discusses how sportsmanship is losing its importance in the worlds of professional and college sports. The author also highlights several situations that are considered unsportsmanlike. Many sports enthusiast would consider some of the author’s examples as gamesmanship. Your assignment is to research and write, in 1 page, your definitions of gamesmanship and sportsmanship. Give some examples of each, and explain the similarities and differences. Is gamesmanship ever acceptable? Why or why not? Part 2 The Deflated State of Sportsmanship (Churdar, 2015) illustrates a list of stakeholders responsible for sportsmanship. Write a page on each of the stakeholders explaining their roles and duties to ensure sportsmanship. There are some stakeholders missing from the author’s list. Do research to find who they may be and add information about their roles and duties with regard to sportsmanship. Support your statements with evidence from the Required Studies and your research.
