Gaps in current knowledge and how this proposal will contribute to knowledge 5. The research method to be employed and rationale for its use 6. The specific participant requirement and how they will be recruited 7. Ethical concerns specific to the actual proposal (not general ethics; these can be positive aspects of conducting this research) 8. Challenges and considerations of the proposed methodology (rigour) 9. How your personal assumptions and experience may influence the research process (reflexivity) This proposal is HYPOTHETICAL ONLY. What is the working title of your proposal? Introduction: This will be a literature review directly related to the topic and should lead into the study aims. You must consider what areas of literature you propose to review which would demonstrate that your proposal will add to knowledge – so what gaps are their in current knowledge? Aim of Study A clear research question. Methodology: Provide a rationale for using 1) the chosen approach (i.e. qualitative, quantitative, mixed-method) and 2) the actual method of data collection (i.e. questionnaire, interview, survey). Participants: Who will be your participants and how many. How will you recruit these people? Data Gathering: The process your research will take – the amount of time, whether you need assistance, whether there are any stages to this research. If you are using a mixed method make sure you specify which aspect of the study would be applied first. Ethical What particular ethical issues might arise with your chosen project? Are there considerations: ethically positive outcomes of your proposed research? Reflexivity: What impact do you think you will have on the research process? (Your choice of design, your role, etc.) Rigour: What might be a problem with your choice of investigation and what will you do to ensure that the research process is trustworthy/valid? Criteria the Proposal must therefore meet in order to pass: 1. A clear topic related to one of the lifespan stages/transitions between stages, articulated in a meaningful working title 2. A clear METHODOLOGY. This means actual tests to be used or ACTUAL interview/focus group questions (script if it is qualitative). Without a detailed method there is no proposal to assess and it will be counted as a fail. The non-completion of any required area – e.g. Reflexivity, Rigour or Ethics – will result in a 20 grade for that section, which may result in a fail if too many sections are missing.
