Discuss the status of women and girls in the developing world. In what areas have women been disadvantaged and what are examples of gender-based violence? What explains these problems and what actions have been taken — by states, IGOs and NGOs — to address them? In your opinion, what is the most pressing problem, and what the most effective approach to address it? Why?
You are required to write a Topic Summary Paper worth 300 points (30% of your grade). You will need to submit your paper electronically, to the website www.turnitin.com. You will also need to submit hard-copy in class. The electronic submission date is the due date. • please see the Course Information Module and/or the syllabus for the final due date. There is one deadline for all papers; however, I highly recommend an early submission if you are writing your paper on Topic 3.
o Late Policy: late assignments will be lowered by one letter grade per day. After two days, assignments will not be accepted and you will receive a failing grade for the assignment.1 Exceptions to this rule and/or extensions of the due date are allowed in extraordinary circumstances only, such as documented medical or family emergencies, and only if you contacted me prior to the deadline and have a significant portion of your paper completed. If you run into a scheduling conflict with a deadline, please remember that you may always submit the assignment early.
• Importance of correct citations: you will need to integrate the assigned readings and lectures into your paper. Is very important that you cite your sources for anything that is not common knowledge. Papers that do not include citations will not be graded and will receive a failing grade. Y
. Papers with substantial citation problems, including those that use a different citation style, will receive a “D” grade at best. Cases of plagiarism will be reported to the Dean of Students, and will result in a failing grade for the assignment and for the class. Please find the directions for the APSA citation style in the document which is posted to Moodle (to the Course Introduction module). There are also three short videos that summarize the key elements of the APSA style.
