In “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and “The Devil wears Prada,” there are techniques of the negative consequences of influence, superficiality and corruption depicted.
I would like to focus on the themes especially on “negative consequences of influence,” “superficiality,” and “corruption” in both materials. For example, In “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” Lord Henry gives Dorian Gray a French book about hedonistic lifestyles, and Dorian begins to engage in this hedonism. They are focused on pleasure, enjoyment, beauty and sexual desires. In “The Devil wears Prada,” Andrea, a quiet girl, is turning into a different person in both physically and mentally influenced by fashion society. Dorian himself is a superficial person and Andrea being in a fashion society as well. In both works, corruption would eventually arrive towards to the ends. Dorian is appeared at the beginning of the novel as an innocent youth. Under Lord Henry’s influence he becomes corrupt, and eventually begins corrupting other youths himself.
